I already experiment with a lot of smoothie recipes since my partner and I are very health-focused. I covered this beautiful peach and cream smoothie 2 months ago.
This orange banana smoothie is like sunshine in a glass, creamy, citrusy, and so refreshing.
It combines the tanginess of the oranges with the soft, natural sweetness of ripe bananas.
It’s perfect for hot mornings, smoothie bowls, or even freezing into popsicle molds for a wholesome summer treat.
You don’t need anything fancy—just a few good ingredients and a blender.
And this recipe comes together very quickly – it only takes 5 minutes tops!

Tips for the Best Orange and Banana Smoothie
Getting the balance of flavors and colors just right is key. Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind:
- Freeze your banana overnight for the creamiest texture—it makes the smoothie almost milkshake-thick. Try these reusable silicone freezer bags to portion and store ripe bananas.
- For extra citrus zing, add ½ teaspoon of orange zest or a splash of pure orange extract.
- Swap regular yogurt with vanilla Greek yogurt for a richer, dessert-like flavor.
- Use a high-speed blender like this Nutribullet Pro to get the smoothest, frothiest blend.
- Want it chilled without watering down the flavor? Freeze peeled orange segments in advance using a freezer-safe glass container.
Now, let’s dive into the recipe!
Orange Banana Smoothie
Course: BreakfastDifficulty: Easy2
servings5
minutesIngredients
1 ripe banana (preferably frozen)
2 medium oranges, peeled and segmented
¼ cup Greek yogurt or plain yogurt
½ cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
Ice cubes (optional, for extra thickness)
Directions
- Peel the banana and oranges. If your banana is fresh and not frozen, consider adding a few ice cubes to get that frosty, creamy texture. Place the banana, orange segments, yogurt, and milk into a blender. Add honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter smoothie—this step is optional, especially if your fruit is already ripe and sweet.
- Blend everything on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 30–45 seconds. Check the consistency and taste—if it’s too thick, add a splash more milk; if it’s not cold enough, toss in a few ice cubes and pulse again. Once smooth and frothy, pour into a chilled glass. Garnish with an orange slice and banana coins for a pretty finish.
- I absolutely love these on days when I need a pick-me-up.
Variations and Substitutes:
Replace Greek yogurt with coconut yogurt to make it dairy-free and tropical.
Add a handful of spinach or frozen mango to sneak in more nutrients or boost fiber.
Swap milk for orange juice if you want a juice-bar-style version.
Blend in a scoop of vanilla protein powder for a post-workout smoothie.
Add a pinch of turmeric or ginger for a refreshing, anti-inflammatory twist.
This is one of my favorite smoothies currently.
Every time I make it, I’m reminded that the simplest flavors are often the most comforting.
