Chocolate Covered Christmas Pretzels

My partner loves salted snacks, and he can’t stop popping pretzels. He picked up that habit in New York.

So, I thought, why not incorporate pretzels into our festivities?

It’s so nostalgic and comforting, making chocolate-covered pretzels during the holidays.

They’re the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and crunchy!

Plus, they look like they came straight out of a Christmas movie.

I made these last year when I want something easy, festive, and ridiculously addictive to snack on while watching cozy Christmas films.

They’re also great for gifting by the way, just pack them in a pretty jar or cellophane bag, and you’ve got the easiest edible present ever.

If you’re a chocolate lover, this recipe is going to become your go-to.

I also have this chewy chocolate cookie recipe here if you like cookie recipes!

Tips for the Best Chocolate Pretzels

Use high-quality melting chocolate for the best flavor and smooth texture, I love using Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers for consistent results.

Add 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate for a minty twist, or drizzle caramel before sprinkling sea salt for a gourmet touch.

If you want to keep the pretzels glossy and professional-looking, consider using tempered chocolate — it’s easier than it sounds and makes them look bakery-quality.

Ingredients

  • 30 mini pretzels or pretzel twists

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter (optional, for smoother melting)

  • Christmas sprinkles (red, green, white)

Directions

  • Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semisweet chocolate chips in 20-second bursts, stirring after each interval until smooth.
  • Dip half of your pretzels in the melted chocolate using a fork or dipping tool, letting the excess drip off before placing them on the lined tray.
  • Repeat with the white chocolate, melting it the same way, and coat the remaining pretzels. Sprinkle the tops immediately with festive sprinkles before the chocolate hardens.
  • Chill the tray in the fridge for 10–15 minutes until set, then transfer to an airtight container.

  • I personally love this as a gift or a fun snack. I make this when I have guests over too!

Variations and Substitutions:

Try using dark chocolate for a richer flavor or milk chocolate for extra sweetness. You can also swap the pretzels for pretzel rods if you want to make them look more elegant for gift boxes. For a fun holiday twist, sprinkle crushed candy canes, mini marshmallows, or edible glitter instead of regular sprinkles. You can even make them dairy-free by using vegan chocolate chips and coconut oil.
